Wellness Center

This multipurpose 300,000 sq. ft mixed-use building provides new housing for Howard  University students and allows storefronts to bring a new presence to Georgia Avenue. This project will achieve the neighborhood’s goals for an active pedestrian realm along transit corridors, and an attractive street appearance with minimal on impact on neighboring properties. The wellness center will provide four full courts, an indoor track, and a weight lifting area.  The fitness area will not accessible to both Howard Universtiy students as well as the community.
This project will ensure a quality living environment that will be desirable and maintain its value over time. When mixed-use projects are well designed, they can provide good quality housing and an active and vibrant commercial corridor.

The presence of Bryant Street had a pronounce impact on the building design.  I did a study of foot traffic surrounding this area and found out that a lot of the university students used this lot not only as for parking, but as a shortcut to get to their dormitories. So I decided to create a alley way through the building

to not interrupt the natural flow of traffic.
